By Dr. Mehri Moore At THIRA Health, much of the work we do is built around dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), a modified form of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) that was developed in the 1980s by University of Washington researcher and professor of psychology and psychiatry and behavioral sciences Dr. Marsha Linehan. DBT is grounded in the idea that certain individuals have a lower tolerance for distress than others, and thus are more prone to having intense emotional responses to seemingly ordinary circumstances.
