THIRA CE Event Series – Part 1: The Story Behind the Dance – Overview of DBT

September 28, 2019 @ 8:30 am - 12:30 pm

Join THIRA Health for breakfast as we dive into a four-part CE series focusing on DBT led by world-renowned DBT expert, Dr. Kathryn Korslund.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive, cognitive-behavioral treatment for individuals with multiple, complex, and difficult to treat disorders. Developed for acutely and chronically suicidal individuals with emotional dysregulation, interpersonal chaos, impulsiveness, confusion about the self (identity) and cognitive rigidity, DBT has been found to be effective for a wide range of clinical problems such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders and substance use problems.

This 3-hour clinically focused program will present the foundational philosophy, principles, and core treatment strategies of DBT. At the conclusion of the presentation, attendees will be able to:

  1. Describe the evidence-based applications of DBT for specific populations and clinical problems.
  2. Describe the philosophy, principles, and assumptions underlying DBT.
  3. Define Stage 1 treatment targets and treatment hierarchy.
  4. Identify core DBT treatment strategies.

After receiving her doctoral degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania at Hahnemann University, Dr. Korslund completed a postdoctoral fellowship under the direction of Dr. Marsha Linehan in the Department of Psychology at the University of Washington.
